I can't remember how many movies there are? Its been a while since I've watched them. But I know there is more than the 3 you mentioned. And I know what you mean, you have to be in the mood to watch them. I think the first book in the song of acadia series was the best too. I also really liked the one where one of the daughters once grown traveled by ship...I don't remember which one that was. That one was really good too. I wonder if that was the third one like you mentioned? paperdollmomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14315900640385889481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7624597359174394097.post-56060668886929455132015-02-16T23:18:24.833-05:002015-02-16T23:18:24.833-05:00I'm glad you did! I like the Love Comes Softly movies:D That is, I have to be in the right mood, but ordinarily, yes. My favorites are probably "Love's Enduring Promise," "Love's Unending Legacy," and "Love's Unfolding Dream." What about you? Have you seen either of the prequels they made a while ago?Oliviahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03546655886492251059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7624597359174394097.post-51969134299202775212015-02-16T13:43:49.327-05:002015-02-16T13:43:49.327-05:00I figured you probably read some of hers, but just...I figured you probably read some of hers, but just in case I thought I'd mention her! I absolutely loved Song of Acadia series. I reread that first book so many times when I was living in Alaska. Have you seen the Love Comes Softly movie series? I own the whole set, love them. They are not really much like the books at all, the timeline is all messed. They show them in a marathon type of way on TV every now and then.paperdollmomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14315900640385889481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7624597359174394097.post-88062050921028946432015-02-16T10:47:20.549-05:002015-02-16T10:47:20.549-05:00Aargh I love that adaptation so much! Have you ever read anything by Janette Oke? She is a Christian Historical Fiction writer. Her books are really good. Specifically, I think you would like her Love Comes Softly series. I read several of them (I think there are 8 books in the series), and I own all the movies as well. I love Brandon in Sense and Sensibility, but he never seems to be on the list of men everyone goes on and on about. And her writing is dry. It is good, just different, specific. I think you have to like that kind of blunt narrative writing like that. Obviously her stories are wonderful, I believe they are the most adapted/retold stories in film and books. paperdollmomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14315900640385889481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7624597359174394097.post-20182905779231686072015-02-14T17:44:48.970-05:002015-02-14T17:44:48.970-05:00If it's any consolation, I didn't like Aus...If it's any consolation, I didn't like Austen when I was a teen either. I think her writing style is extremely bland. Love her stories. But in the novels, it is basically all narration with some talking. I love beautiful writing, and though her tales are wonderful, I need detail! Her books are really just saturated with social etiquette, and everything else within the story is given the least amount of detail as possible. I read through MOST of Sense and Sensibility, but that is all I have done with her novels. I have read through almost all of them in children adapted versions! paperdollmomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14315900640385889481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7624597359174394097.post-83108168428716209452015-02-13T20:43:36.778-05:002015-02-13T20:43:36.778-05:00You can read in French?? I feel like a disgrace to the period-drama-loving community, but…with the exception of P&P, I've never finished one of her books. I just can't seem to get into them as I can their movie adaptations. I actually completed the first level of Rosetta Stone in French, and was surprised I could actually read pretty basic French...and understand it! My goal is to get good enough to be able to read The Hunchback of Notre Dame all in French. Someday. But I have to actually continue to learn French to get that good.....and I haven't kept up. I also love Beowulf. I searched and searched for the perfect edition before buying and indulging, and absolutely love it. I am pretty picky about translations with old things. I like it to have that old language feel. Like Charles Dickens or Jane Austen. I haven't been able to read through Austen either. I start, but she is so bland of a writer for me. My favorite story of hers though is Sense and Sensibility.paperdollmomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14315900640385889481noreply@blogger.com
