All of Virginia Woolf's novels, ranked.
"April is upon us, pitiless and young and harsh," as Edna St. Vincent Millay so justly expressed it, and I can think of no better time to dive into the work of my beloved Virginia Woolf. Woolf is probably my top favorite author at this point, so I wanted her to have at least one dedicated post on this blog. And, since I've officially read all of her novels now, a ranking post naturally seemed the way to go. Here, then, are my thoughts — in a few nutshells — on Woolf's long-form fiction, from the worst of it to the best. 😍 (General content warning for all of these books: As you might expect from literature of this time period, there are, unfortunately, throwaway racial slurs or instances of casual racism peppered throughout most of them.) # 10. Night and Day (1919) “When you consider things like the stars, our affairs don't seem to matter very much, do they?” Babe, no. If Olivia Rishell is telling you that you're taking parlor politics too far, then...

*heart eyes for the pretty pictures*
ReplyDeleteSwan Princess!!!!!!! SO underrated.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it, though??
DeleteEver After! And Narnia! And The Sound of Music! And the Princess Diaries! All lovely movies. <3 (Oh, and what's the name of that movie with the two dogs?? It's on the tip of my tongue...)
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun idea for a post! Is this part of a tag or something?
It's Homeward Bound! 😊
DeleteI'm glad you like them, too. <3 (Haha and yes, what Caitlin said!)
DeleteIt was part of a thing that went around a while ago: people would either post a movie still on some form of social media, with no context, for ten days straight; or people would just post them all in one fell swoop. The idea, as far as I recall, was to share movies that had been influential in your life. :)
AHH YES, that's it! Thanks Caitlin. :)
DeleteOh okay, cool! Hmm... I might just have to do this on my blog sometime. ;D
Yay!
ReplyDeleteYes, I love these movies!!! <333 The only ones that I haven't seen are Persuasion and the animated one.
ReplyDelete:D <3
DeleteACK, did you watch Homeward Bound growing up too?? I haven't seen that movie in forever...xD
ReplyDeleteDid I ever! And my mom cried every. single. time. ;) To be fair I'm pretty sure I'd bawl if I watched it now.
DeleteAh, the 1995 adaptation of Persuasion. I love that movie, as of course I love the novel. It's my favorite of Austen's works, except for when I'm reading Pride and Prejudice, which is then my favorite Austen work.
ReplyDeleteI really love it, too. It might be my second favorite Austen film adaptation? Not quite sure, but there's a definite possibility. I have a whole hierarchy when it comes to Austen, in terms of favorite book, favorite movie, favorite story in general, that I did a post about a few months ago. I think P&P is my favorite book of hers. :)
