Ask Me Anything Answers, Part 1

Whenever I see these Ask Me Anything answer posts, they're always divided into two.  Well, now that I've read all of your lovely questions, I understand why;)  Here's the first installment (which is quite long)!

Emma asked:

- What time do you usually get up in the morning?
'Hem, yes, well, about that...I often get up at rather shameful hours. I am getting better, though! Recently I've been waking up around 8:30 to 8:45 and emerging from my room after quiet time and other things anywhere from forty-five minutes to an hour later. If you're asking what time I usually "get started on the day," I'd have to say around 10:00 a.m. *winces* BUT, that being said, I'm usually working later in the day, to compensate.

- Are you planning on going to college?
Yep! I hope to become a pediatric nurse:)

- If you could choose one man in all of literature, film, anything, to be your husband, who would it be?
Yikes! Well, I'd have to say, probably either Faramir of The Lord of the Rings or Henry Tilney of Northanger Abbey. I love both of those guys, and I think those are probably the two with whom I'd get along the best:)

- What's one of the goofiest, dumbest, funniest things you've ever done?
I've accidentally done a few things in public that have earned me some *cough* looks--like saying something aloud that wasn't technically the nicest thing to say (it wasn't swearing, never fear)...or seeing a baby in a passing car, and obviously making some sort of facial expression like "Aww!" or "Oh!", because the driver of the car proceeded to wave cautiously at me…

Who's your favorite character in Lonesome Dove?
:D My favorite character from Lonesome Dove is Woodrow F. Call.

I'm not entirely sure why - after all, he's the stubborn-est thing, and refuses to acknowledge Newt as his son (though, admittedly, it could be debated whether he was his son). But he's just so doggone awesome. (I guess you could say I have a thing for hardened but vulnerable cowboys.)

I love how fiercely he defends Newt. Like when that lowlife soldier is whipping Newt, and Woodrow comes out of the store and sees, drops his parcels, and high-tails it over there to beat the tar out of him...it made me really happy:) And may I just say…Tommy Lee Jones, you are one fantastic actor.

Lydia asked:

What are your top five passions?
(Other than faith, family, and friends, of course.)
1.)  Stories (books/movies)
2.)  Music
3.)  Just being outside, drinking in the beauty of my dear home-place, and pondering deep ponderings about life and faith and the universe and all that rot;)
4.)  Writing poetry
5.)  Bouts of creativity, whether it be rearranging/redecorating my room, crocheting, DIY projects, etc.

How would the perfect relationship with s guy play out?
Marriage, I suppose:) However, there is no prospective marriage-partner making himself known at the moment (thank the Lord; I'm certainly not ready for all that, age-wise or maturity-wise), and *cue poor-pitiful-me music* I sometimes wonder if perhaps I sha'n't ever marry--and really, I'm becoming perfectly okay with that. Haha, I'm not even sure if I want to get married, as of right now. Somewhat of an independent spirit, I guess (ha. Right.) ;)

What boundaries, if any, have you set for yourself?
Do you mean boundaries for a relationship like the one discussed above? I'm not really thinking that much about it right now. I do have some physical boundaries, but I'd rather not go into that *cough*

Miss Meg March asked:

Seeing as you are Arwen, do you like Aragorn over Faramir? (I'm not answering that, hehe.)
Oh, m'dear girl…what a can of worms you opened;) All right, how to put this…um, well…no. No, I don't.

Faramir happens to be my favorite fictional character ever -- and trust me, as I'm sure you can imagine, that is saying a lot -- so…I prefer him over Aragorn:)

About Aragorn, as a matter of fact...

*heavy sigh*  Aragorn is an incredible character, and there is absolutely no reason to dislike him that I can think of, but…I'm not that crazy about him.  As a character in general, yes, absolutely, I love him, but…I'm not sure that he makes my list of favorite LotR people *winces*  HOWEVER, I totally and completely understand that he is positively amazing, and that what I've said about him is probably how a lot of people feel about Faramir.  So, yeah…

Which do you like better: "May It Be", "Into the West" or "The Last Goodbye"?
"The Last Goodbye." MIB and ItW are tough competition, but TLG is just so perfect in so many ways that they don't really stand a chance. For instance:

~ It's the absolute last Middle-earth credit song we will ever have (barring an adaptation of The Silmarilion)

~ Therefore, the lyrics are far too feelsy to handle (just look)

(There is a real, physical ache at the incredible beauty of these lyrics…)

~ Billy Boyd sang it.  PIPPIN SANG THE FINAL IT'S-ALL-OVER-BUT-IT'LL-BE-OKAY CREDIT SONG.

Pippin or Sam?

Nope.  Sorry.

Would you show us some of your poetry? (I write it too! :D)
Aww! Thanks so much for asking! (I'd love to see some of yours sometime!) Okay, here goes:

A gentle beam of lamplight, handwriting on a page,

Small motes dancing quietly in a cold glass of water.

The scent of old books, the turning of an age -

I thank You, Lord for the simple things.

A tiny baby's joyful giggle, a little child's first swim,

The sparkle of an engagement ring,

The singing of a wedding hymn -

I thank You, Lord, for the simple things.

The polished feel of piano keys,

The ebb and flow of the ageless seas

The nostalgic comfort of flannel sheets,

The littlest acts, the greatest feats -

I thank You, Lord, for the simple things.

And I wrote this one yesterday, just for fun, after a storm:)

The clouds amass

A cumulonimbus army

Down, down, an inexorable descent

Darkening, rumbling

The militarial harbinger

Down, down, crushing the treetops

'Til suddenly it bursts

Torrents, torrents, soaking the earth

A downpour of emotions

The troubled heart of the storm thinks all is lost.

A few moments, though, and the tempest has passed

The pain is eased

The grime is cleansed

And raindrops bejewel each soaked surface

The cedar reaches out eager hands

To catch the merrily winking diamonds

And from the whitewashed porch swing

Dangle the translucent little gems

All is dripping, earthy calm

After a late spring storm.

I doubt you'll reveal this, but how old are you? :P Or perhaps, are you still in school?
Hehe, you're right, I don't care to reveal that, but I will say that yes, I am still in school.

Coffee or tea?
Neither, please:D

Favourite musical? (Or top 3.)
Whew! I'm glad you included "top 3"!;) I can't be sure that these are my all-time top favorites, but they are for right now: Evita, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and The Phantom of the Opera.

Are you a girly girl or a tomboy?
Somewhere in the middle, I think. I'm not especially girly, and I'm not especially tomboyish. (Sorry, that was a rather weak answer, wasn't it?)

Favourite actor/actress?
I have a number of favorites, but for brevity's sake, Gregory Peck ;)

Favourite Bible verse?
Well, one of my favorites is Psalm 116:7 -- "Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you."

Whew! Thanks for the awesome questions! Stay tuned for subsequent answer posts (there may be more than one!) :)

  1. I had no clue you wanted to do nursing! I'm graduating from nursing school this month so if you have any questions ever just ask. Sometimes it's tough and weird being a Christian in nursing school. My "sheltered" homeschool life certainly got stripped away.

    1. Thank you! I probably will:) Oh, I bet! In which particular ways? Just in the scientific determinism some people have (knowing EXACTLY how the world came into being and such), or just experiencing other people's attitudes toward life in general?

      Delete
    2. Some scientific aspects but not too terribly (you get that more in classes like biology and microbiology). It's a variety of things. Some is definitely people's attitude toward life. There's definitely a nursing humor that's not always clean and you learn way more about some things than you would ever want to know. ;) It's definitely awkward caring for guys the first few times but you get used to it for the most part.

      Delete
    3. Oh, I get it:-/ Ah, well. Is there a specific nursing field in which you majored?:)

      Delete
  2. That's awesome that you want to be a nurse!

Woodrow? Really? Okay, I'm a leetle surprised....but then when I read what you wrote, not at all. Yup, Woodrow's awesome. He's hard and tough and all that, but deep down he cares. AND NEWT IS TOTALLY WOODROW'S SON. There is no debate over that in my book. :-) (Seriously, though, Gus knows, and if Gus knows that does it for me.)

Gaahhh, the part when Woodrow beats the nasty cavalry officer. My daddy says that's the best part in the whole movie. :-) "I hate rude behavior in a man. Won't tolerate it." Tommy Lee Jones is sooooo awesome. Definitely one of my favorites. (Btw, have you seen him in The Coal Miner's Daughter? SUCH a good movie, and he's so amazing.)

One more LD comment...I'm actually almost done with the book. You'll be hearing about it when I am. :-D

I want to see Evita! I don't know hardly anything about it, but another friend of mine really likes it too. Is that where the song 'Don't Cry For Me, Argentina' is from?

I love your Bible verse. :-) Such simple, yet impotent words.

And I have to say once again, your poetry is lovely! So deep-down cozy and heart-singing. I especially like the one about the spring storm. :-)

    1. I forgot to say....my favorite character in LD might be Clara. Or Dish. Or Gus. Or Newt...okay, I'd better stop. ;-P

    2. Haha, I was a bit surprised myself when I realized that he was my favorite;) I just love how he tries to be all gruff and hard...and totally fails...:D

Yep, that may have been one of my favorite parts in LD. IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY. :) I don't think I've seen The Coal Miner's Daughter, but it sounds awesome! I'll have to look it up!

You're almost done!!! That's awesome! Are you planning on reading any of the sequels?

Yeeess, watch Evita!!! Okay, so, the problem is...there is some stuff in it. She wasn't exactly the most moral of women (of course, there were some circumstances, though). BUT once you get past those parts, it's absolutely awesome. It's a bit confusing and unclear at times (and just weird), but I love it:D Oh, and if the movie makes me cry THREE TIMES, it's good;) I mean, I hardly ever cry in movies, but this one did it to me. Yes, DCfMA is from Evita:) (But the thing is, no one ever warns you that she sings that song twice, and the second time you'll be crying, and--shutting up.)

      Isn't it a neat verse?:)

Aww! Thanks so much! I really appreciate it:D

Haha, I understand. Ooh, Clara was one of my favorites too! And Deets *sniffle*...

    3. I don't think I used the word 'impotent' correctly-- what I meant to say was 'omnipotent'. ;-)

Weeel....I'm not sure if I'll read any of the sequels. Part of me kind of wants to just read it and leave it at that, but then part of me wants to read everything else Larry McMurtry's ever written. His writing is SO good, but there's also a lot I could do without. So we'll see. ;-) I have read his Telegraph Days, though, and I absolutely loved that (though there was some, *ahem* content). We have a rather interesting relationship, McMurtry and I. ;-P

Oooh, I'll definitely check out Evita!!!

    4. Haha, gotcha:)

I understand how you feel. I might read at least the first sequel eventually, just because I've read that Dish and Lorie darlin' are finally together in it;)

      Yes, do!

    5. DISH AND LORIE ARE TOGETHER!!!!! That is the very summit of all my hopes and dreams! :-) It's settled, then. I must read it. (We're talking about Streets of Laredo, right?)

I gotta say, I LOVE your poetry. I used to write poetry when I was younger, but inspiration abandoned me a few years ago. But yours is really beautiful and enjoyable to read.

  7. Hey Olivia,
I didn't know whether to comment or not because you published this ages ago. I was on holidays for the past weeks so that's why I didn't comment sooner. :) This will be rather random and disjointed, but I was hoping to 'comment' on all your 3 answer posts.
I thought you may have liked Faramir better, but I wanted to see for myself. ;) I can't decide which of them I like better. I just like them both for different reasons, really - they're so different, with their strengths and weaknesses!
As to The Last Goodbye all I have to say it YES YES YES. It's just so perfect. I think that was the most touching part of the movie for me, hehe. ;)
Haha, sorry I didn't mean to be rude. ;P Mr. Darcy's frown is rather intimidating, isn't it?
Oh, thanks so much for showing us your poetry! They're fantastic! I especially like the storm one. Sure, I'll show you one, although mine are quite different. It took me awhile to decide on one because I have written a lot, but I think this one will always be a favourite of mine:
Smooth, shiny bodies with dark, flowing manes,
Wild horses running, restricted by no reins.
Onward they move, their ears held high,
As the earth underfoot just passes them by.
The thunder of their hooves upon the solid ground,
The snorting of their noses and numerous other sounds.
The wind on their backs, the spark in their eye,
The green of the grass and the blue of the sky.
Dust in their manes and foam on their sides,
As northward, the herd of wild horses ride.
I wrote that when I was......12? (I hadn't studied writing poetry either, I just decided I wanted to write some. :P) That was a few years back, if you're wondering. ;D
Phantom of the Opera is my second favourite musical, the first being Les Miserables! I am rather alone in my liking for POTO (with people I know face-to-face, you know ;D) so it's harder for me to enjoy it sometimes. ;)
I understand being half in half - I've decided I'm a girly girl though, although that doesn't mean I'm afraid to get my hands dirty!
I'm in a family of 8 too! (I am the third youngest/fourth eldest.) I wear skirts and pants too. :D
I play piano also, although I'm only in 2nd grade (for leisure, so far). I love it though!
Oh, elvish! I'm impressed! ;) I've dressed up for the Hobbit too with siblings and friends. We did a lot of sewing and used our creative skills, hehe. I went as an unnamed elf too. :D
I agree, a Knight's Tale is kind of weird. ;P
I'm so glad I don't have to answer those BBC Robin Hood questions - they would be like, IMPOSSIBLE to answer. :P
I was about to apologize for the long comment, but thought better of it. ;) (And I tried to comment just before this but as I was about to publish it I accidentally deleted it so I had to start anew. *sigh* Oh the joys of technology.)
    ~Miss Meg March
P.S. Just to clarify, I'm not the other "Miss March" who has recently started a blog. Just so you don't confuse 'us', hehe. I'm not from America either (as you can probably tell by my spelling). I'm from the land Down Under. ;)

Yeah, it's tough. They're both great characters!
Oh my word, TLG was absolutely the BEST part of that movie. Definitely:D
Heehee, it wasn't rude! I'm just too indecisive to try to figure out which one I prefer;)
Aww, thanks so much! That's so sweet. Ooh, your poem is great! And you wrote that when you were 12? Wow! I doubt I'd be able to compose a comparable poem at 12. I especially liked the lines, "The wind on their backs, the spark in their eyes/The green of the grass and the blue of the sky/Dust in their manes and foam on their sides/As northward the herd of wild horses ride."
Oh, Les Mis is amazing. I'm not as fond of it as I should be, but the MUSIC is gorgeous and inspiring.
You're in a family of eight, too? That's so cool!:D
      Isn't piano awesome?
Haha, it's fun cosplaying with friends, isn't it? Yay for unnamed elves *high five*
Weren't those Robin Hood questions wonderfully hard to answer? I actually really enjoyed them, though:D
