All the 'Best Picture' Oscar Winners I've Seen

Image
I saw this done by Eva over at Coffee, Classics, and Craziness , and I thought it'd be fun to share my own stats. ;) It Happened One Night (1934) I wanted to like this so bad, but had some quibbles about how the girl was technically married, even though it was all sort of resolved in the end. Gone with the Wind (1939) I'll watch it every once in a while, but not all the way through.  Nor with a great deal of affection. ;-P Casablanca (1943) It's not that I disliked this one, it's just that I didn't really like it, either.  (But that last "Here's looking at you, kid" did Hit Me.) An American in Paris (1951) I'm preeeetty sure I watched all of this ─ there's a chance I only watched a part of it ─ but either way, I was not very impressed, I'm sorry to say. :-P My Fair Lady (1964) ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITES. ♥  Higgins and Eliza and all their coterie are pure gold.  I hope I never tire of them. An Exciting Announcement

Image
(Of course, the responsible prelude to this would be to issue the caveat that you, individually, may not actually find this announcement very exciting.  It all depends on your personal predilections.) (If you don't like the Western genre, for instance, you will likely not be enthused.) (Why is that?) Because the Legends of Western Cinema Week blog party is coming back this summer!! You may remember that a few years back, a blogger named Emma Jane and I co-hosted a fabulous blog party devoted to all things Western story-themed.  (In fact, I believe Emma may have been doing something similar for years before we even became acquainted.)  Book + movie reviews, rambling analyses on the constituents of the genre, games, tags, general fangirling . . . it was all there in abundance. The tradition fizzled out as Emma Jane and I both became involved in other things.  But now, I'm very pleased to announce, the event is being reborn!  This year, my co-hostesses will be the

Susan Pevensie Snippets

Image
In celebration of a rather exciting milestone in its writing, I wanted to share some snippets of my Susan Pevensie story.  If snippets aren't your thing, don't give it a second thought, but if they are . . . read on, Lizzie. ;) (Pictures from my Pinterest inspiration board.) ____________________________________________________              Susan dropped her head again, recalled to the present.          Surely they deserve better, Aslan. Why can I not be as faithful as my siblings?           “Child.”           Susan looked up, and her spirit caught. He was there. Large and gentle and golden and radiant, standing a few yards away with eyes only for her. And those eyes. Oh, those eyes. ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________           Round and round the carousel of her thoughts whirled ⎼ a foggy mixture of anxiety, confusion, grief, and fatigue ⎼ until exhaustion prevai

The Fantastical and Felicitous Fictional Character Tag

Image
Eva very kindly tagged me for this, and I was so excited.  A good tag is hard to beat, and this one is great fun (although it was strangely difficult for me to come up with answers :-P). Rules: Answer every question honestly. (duh.) Use as many gifs and images as possible. Incorporate at least one YouTube video with a favorite scene of a character. NO VAGUE ANSWERS ALLOWED. Explain why you chose that favorite character to fit that description. I love details, my friends. If you can’t choose just one, that’s okay – give us a few answers and geek out if that’s what it takes. Tag at least 3 people. Use fictional characters from any fictional story. If you get nominated and/or decide to participate in this tag, please put a link back to this post in your post and credit yours truly (Emily at The Altogether Unexpected ) as the creator. Have fun and obsess over fictional characters! Goody-two-shoes: A character who was just so morally good  Aragorn from The Lord of t

"Good night, Dodger." || Rory & Jess

Image
⎼ *SPOILERS* ⎼ It's a well-known fact that for as long as I've been acquainted with the TV show Gilmore Girls , I have been firmly on the Team Jess side of things.  None of Rory's love interests are perfect guys ⎼ none of them ⎼ and all of them make stupid mistakes, but I've always been adamant that Rory Should End Up With Jess And No One Else. And I still think that Rory Should End Up With Jess And No One Else.  But I'm a little more clear-sighted about it now. Because during my most recent bout of interest in the series (I tend to cycle through stories that I like, experiencing phases of renewed enthusiasm and then returning to a fairly dispassionate and long-standing appreciation that no longer approaches fervor in its intensity), I started to question my long-standing conviction. Is Jess really the undeniably best option for Rory?   Was she actually misguided in refusing to reenter their romantic relationship? I started wondering, and that ri
