All the 'Emma' adaptations I've seen, ranked.

Image
I got this idea from Eva , who often does these kinds of posts.  I always enjoy hers, and I'm excited to try my hand at some of my own.  [Yep, planning on possibly making this a series of sorts. 😜] So let's dive in!  Ranking all the Emma adaptations I've seen so far, from my (current) least favorite to my (current) favorite.  [Y'all ain't gonna be happy. 😆] These are ranked solely according to personal enjoyment.   I'm making no statements about historical accuracy; I'm not commenting (much) on fidelity to the book.  Keep your corsets on. [Also, I enjoy all of these adaptations for different reasons.] ⎼ ⎼ ⎼ ⎼ ⎼ #6.  the Alicia Silverstone ( Clueless ) This is fun enough.  Rudd and Silverstone have a cute, flirty chemistry, and some of the lines are pretty iconic.   #5.  the Gwyneth Paltrow (1996) I really like the chemistry between Paltrow and Northam in this one, too.  [Knightley's little addendum to the "No, inde

Cover Reveal: One Bad Apple {by Rachel Kovaciny}

I'm so happy to be a part of Rachel Kovaciny's cover reveal for her new book!  This series of Western-set fairytale retellings is always a highlight in my life; I love looking forward to each installment. 😀 This one is a Snow White and the Seven Dwarves retelling, taking place in the middle of an Exoduster migration .  I was lucky enough to read it early, and it was fantastic.  If you're into gritty family dynamics, unique Westerns, and thoughtful fairytale retellings, you'll want to check this out.  Before I share the cover, here's a synopsis: Fourteen-year-old Levi Dalton feels numb.  Hands tied behind his back, he's about to be hauled away for poisoning a beautiful girl and her kind father.  The woman pointing her finger at him and accusing him of murder is the very same woman he hoped could teach him to heal illnesses, not cause them.  The woman he idolized.  The woman he trusted.  Levi knows he should be scared for his own life.  But all he ca

Christian Purity: Things That (Apparently) Need to Be Said

Image
*WARNING*   This post contains frank discussions of sex, sexual misconduct, and various sexual activities.  It may also contain controversial opinions on those topics.  Use your own discretion. Hello! As some of you already know, I recently took a dive into the exotic world of Christian "purity books".  There were only four involved in this spontaneous little adventure, and put together their length was probably a little less than that of Les Misérables : Girls Gone Wise in a World Gone Wild (by Mary A. Kassian)  Passion and Purity: Learning to Bring Your Love Life Under Christ's Control (by Elisabeth Elliot)  Kissed the Girls and Made Them Cry: Why Women Lose When They Give In (by Lisa Bevere)  Every Young Woman's Battle: Guarding Your Mind, Heart, and Body in a Sex-Saturated World (by Shannon Ethridge and Stephen Arterburn)  Not a big deal, right?  Granted, I'd gone into the whole affair with blatant skepticism, rife with assumptio

Enneagram Types as Virginia Woolf Quotes

Image
[Longish preamble this time around; feel free to skim if you're getting restless.] The other day, I was looking back over some quotes I'd saved from my initial reading of Virginia Woolf's The Waves .  In a flash of inspiration which I can only attribute to my recent preoccupation with the Enneagram personality typing system, I thought how fun it would be to create a post matching some of those quotes to each of the nine types. [And then I started thinking of a whole bunch of other Enneagram-sorting post ideas, most notably an examination of various Once Upon a Time characters, but THAT shall have to wait for another day. 😛] That's what we'll be doing today: attempting to draw patterns between Aesthetically Pleasing, Vaguely Metaphysical Quotes and nine different Templates for Humanity.  [Thanks to Katie's post , the  Enneagram Institute , and the "Enneagram Explained" Instagram account for the various ways all three inspired or informed this po

Movies: Months in Review {March & April 2020}

Emma. (2020) ● PG [should be PG-13, lol] I'm going to be talking more about this in another post, so I'll leave it at this: I like it very much.  Fight me. 😛 Howards End (2017) ● TV-14 *scratches head*  This was . . . this was . . . weird?  I . . . I have confusion.  The cast was fantastic (especially Hayley Atwell), but the story was . . . ?  As has been stated, a head-scratcher. Literally, Right Before Aaron (2017) ● TV-14 This was sublimely awful.  I loved watching it. [I actually did a whole rant review of it in video format and sent it to some friends.  It's too long to embed here, but if you're interested in seeing it, give me a shout and maybe I'll be able to email it to you. 😄] Set It Up (2018) ● TV-14 Awwww, I loved this.  There was more sexual content in it than I expected after reading reviews, so that was an unpleasant surprise, but it was still adorable, with (mostly) good messages and good resolution.
