Movies: Months in Review {October/November/December/January 2019/2020}
It's been a while since we've done one of these! Primarily because it took waiting through January to have actually watched enough new-to-me movies to justify one. 😄
I've decided to start including the MPAA rating for each title in these posts, because usually there's a wide range of content and, while I don't want to take the time to describe all such concerns in detail, I also don't want anybody to go into a movie blindly and then regret it.
Cats (2019) ● PG
Personally, I don't think this movie's problems are its own fault (or, at least, not completely). I think most of it's just on the musical itself. 😝 BUT maybe it's just not my thing and I just don't get it.
I did love Jessica Hudson's parts. "Memory" is forever amazing.
Destination Wedding (2018) ● R
I really enjoyed this rom-com. It's surprisingly philosophical; the majority of the story is just Keanu and Winona dialoguing at the various wedding activities. But it's pretty fun. 😀
Frozen II (2019) ● PG
Y'ALLLLLLL. This has the potential to be one of my absolute top-favorite Disney movies EVER.
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019) ● PG
Okay but when Hiccup says "Save him" and then lets go? The music??! I was shook?!? I'm still shook???!! I just got around to seeing this yesterday and I think I might restart the whole trilogy and watch it again since I'm still on break. 😋
Juliet, Naked (2018) ● R
(It's not porn; I repeat, it's not porn. Nor is it sex-driven. Just getting that out of the way.)
This was another fun chick-flick. Ethan Hawke's acting in one particular scene was really excellent.
Little Women (2019) ● PG
I always love Little Women, and this latest iteration was no exception. ♥ This is my favorite Amy so far for sure, and possibly a few other characters, as well. I'll have to watch it a couple more times to be positive.
Madea's Family Reunion (2006) ● PG-13
I've really liked the two other Madea movies I've seen, but this one seemed like it couldn't decide whether to be a comedy or a drama, and it didn't work as a dramedy, so . . . yeah. I didn't like this one very well. It seemed way too disjointed in tone.
On the Basis of Sex (2018) ● PG-13
Very good, very good.

Also the songs? What the actual heck?

What have you watched lately?
I cry a lot during The Hidden World too.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to see On the Basis of Sex because a) Armie Hammer, and b) Felicity Jones, but it hasn't happened yet. You're making me think I should see if the library has it, mayhap.
I understand your love for it now. :-P I feel like I keep growing in my love for the trilogy. (I'm still not huge on the second one, mostly because of #sadstuff, but the first and the third are so good.)
DeleteI think you might dig OTBOS. Hammer and Jones are both really good.
I'm not huge on the second one either. I love the first the most, and then this one. And the TV shows are great fun, though I only sorta half-watch those when the kids are watching them.
DeleteYou know what? I'm alllllllllllmost done with my major revisions on One Bad Apple, so I'm putting in a request to get OTBOS from the library, and I'm gonna try to watch it next week. Here's hoping.
Ditto. After hearing your pitch for the TV shows, I've wanted to find them just to find the "Ohhhhh, Chickennnnn" parts. XD
DeleteTREAT YO'SELF
Oh man, Tuffnutt and his adorable love for his chickennnnn. So unexpected and sweet.
DeleteXD I feel like learning that about him made me appreciate him even more in this third movie. "Come, cry into my fULL, thICK beard."
DeleteMy kids got these absurd "squid hats" with 12 tentacles that hang down to their knees, and my son braids all his together in front of his face all the time and then tells people to come cry into his Full, Thick Beard. Busts me up.
DeleteThat's fantastic.
DeleteLittle Women yassssssssssssssss
ReplyDeleteand FROZEN II IS A NEW DISNEY CLASSIC. I HAVE SPOKEN.
*pounds desk for emphasis*
HEAR YE, HEAR YE -- FROZEN II IS AMAZING.
DeleteI want to see On The Basis of Sex! I don’t particularly like Ruth Bader Ginsburg, but the story looks intriguing.
ReplyDeleteIt's really good! I think I disagree with Ginsburg on one or two political issues, but the movie is really good.
DeleteHOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: HIDDEN WORLD!!!!!!!!!! Oh my word, I absolutely loved it!!! The music is 100% GORGEOUS. *is happy forever*
ReplyDeleteAnd Little Women was perfectly delightful. <3
It was really enjoyably. <3333
DeleteAgreed!
Couldn't bring myself to watch Cats. :P I'm not very familiar with the musical though, because it always weirded me out (apart from Memory).
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked Frozen 2! I liked it, but to be honest I didn't love it... I think I prefer the first one. But to each their own! :)
Little Women, yeeeeessss!! I really liked it! Sobbed bucket loads but always do with Little Women. Amy was brilliant, agreed! (Finally! They got it right!) I wasn't a huge fan of the time flipping but it didn't make me detest it - they just overdid it.
Ooohh, I kind of want to watch "On the Basis of Sex" now!! My library has it, so I'll stick it on my to-see. :)
So have you not watched Rise of Skywalker yet? :)
Oh, and in regards to what *I've* watched, the only new thing is I'm going through "The Musketeers" TV show with my sister that I started aaages ago but never finished.
DeleteI also saw "Knives Out" which is a murder mystery! It was really, really good! Very clever and unique and well-crafted. Apparently none of the actors knew 'who did it' when they filmed it, to put more of a spin on it. It has some big names in it, too, like Daniel Craig, Chris Evans and Christopher Plummer.
Yeah, that's . . . probably the best call. XD I had wanted to see it from the beginning for some of the music/the cast, but . . . *clears throat*
DeletePrecisely! :)
Exactly, ha -- once I hit a certain age, I've never not cried over Beth. I wish they hadn't done the time flipping either. :-/ I was prepared for it, and I didn't hate it as much as I thought I might, but it still wasn't my favorite. Nevertheless, given how many other adaptations we have, I don't suppose there's anything wrong with having a dual timeline version. XD
It's good!
Nope, not yet!
What are you thinking of The Musketeers? I've been interested in the past but also uncertain.
Huh, that's an interesting tactic for a murder mystery. I could see it being very effective.
