The Sunshine Blogger Award {2024}

Image
Sally Silverscreen from 18 Cinema Lane has nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award!  Always a treat — thank you, Sally! Like most awards, this one comes with a few rules: 1. Display the award’s official logo somewhere on your blog. 2. Thank the person who nominated you. 3. Provide a link to your nominator’s blog. 4. Answer your nominator’s questions. 5. Nominate up to 11 bloggers. 6. Ask your nominees 11 questions. 7. Notify your nominees by commenting on at least one of their blog posts. Those noted, let's proceed to Sally's questions and my answers. ⸻ 1. You’re about to introduce someone to a film genre. Which movie will you choose as the respective introduction? Funny you should ask; I just thought about this subject the other day.  I was re-watching Belle (2013) on a flight home and was impressed once again by just how fantastic of a period drama it is.  It really does have everything:  stunning cinematography, sumptuous costumes you could eat up with a spo...

Top Ten Tuesday | I Read Dead People

Image
Oh, friend, forget not, when you fain would note in me a beauty that was never mine, how first you knew me in a book I wrote, how first you loved me for a written line. - Edna St. Vincent Millay - I'm finally joining the Top Ten Tuesday link-up hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl !  I needed something short 'n' sweet for this month's post, and this fit the bill nicely.  Today's TTT prompt is "Authors I'd Love a New Book From," with freedom to interpret that definition however you choose.  I've decided to restrict my candidates to deceased authors (RIP).  I haven't read every work by every author on my list, but I still feel confident that I'd be interested in reading more from them even if I had. In no particular order, then, here they are:  ten authors who I (selfishly & with shocking entitlement) wish had written just a little bit more before they passed away. ⸻ ❧ C.S. Lewis My boy was fairly prolific, it must be acknowledged, but to par...

We Love Sibling Stories Week | The Pevensies

Image
Narnian greetings to you all!  In case you were unaware, my pal Rachel has been hosting her annual February blog party since Monday.  This year, it's the We Love Sibling Stories Week!  Be sure to check out Rachel's blog for all the party goodness, including games and a giveaway. When Rachel first announced this blog party back in January, I immediately thought that I'd like to contribute something about the Pevensies, both because these kids are possibly my favorite set of siblings in all of fiction and because I don't post about The Chronicles of Narnia  as often as I ought to considering how deeply I love it.  I'd originally planned on writing something more substantive, but I ended up needing to go with something easier to whip up in a pinch, so here we are!   This is just a sentimental li'l overview of each of the Pevensie siblings: a handful of reasons why I love them plus what I see as their Aesthetic™ — along with a Taylor Swift lyric for each ...

Dream Cast: The Silver Chair {by C.S. Lewis}

Image
I've toyed with the idea of fancasting more of the Narnia books for quite some time.  I've already shared my vision for The Magician's Nephew  (which you can read here ), and I'm (for the most part) satisfied with the Warner Bros. adaptations of TLTWATW, Prince Caspian , and TVOTDT.  But what about the three remaining Chronicles ?  What about them, pray?  Sure, The Silver Chair has technically already been adapted by the BBC, but — well.  "Perhaps, on this point, it will be as well to be silent."   (Actually, I quite like the BBC version of TSC, from what I remember.  "Laugh all you choose, but you will not laugh me out of my opinion," and all that.  It's simple and cozy and faithful to the book.  However, I do think it's fair to say that we could do with an upgrade at this point. *ahem*) So!  Since I just reread all seven Chronicles this May, I decided to bite the bullet and go ahead and make a dream cast for The Silver Chair ...

The Give Thanks for Books Tag

Image
My friend Rachel has created the perfect tag for this autumnal season — one dedicated to the books that inspire gratitude in us.  She's also kindly tagged me to fill it out!  Thanks, Rachel! 💛 The Rules 1. Thank the person who tagged you.  2. Fill out the tag. 3. Share the tag graphic in your post. 4. Tag four friends. 5. Provide a clean copy of the tag for easy copying. The Questions G -- A book you're Grateful to a friend for recommending Greenwillow (by B.J. Chute)!  I can't recollect exactly which bloggers talked about it — I think perhaps Heidi and Natalie? — but however I first became aware of it, I am eternally grateful I did.  And that I had the extraordinary good fortune to find a copy at a thrift store one day.  It's one of my top favorite books ever, now.  I -- A book that fires your Imagination The Forgotten Beasts of Eld  (by Patricia A. McKillip).  This book was my introduction to McKillip, and it's still (so far) my favorite...

The Narnia Tag

Image
My pal, my buddy, my main slice Katie  has passed me a Narnia-themed tag, because she's cool like that.  I have a Deep & Abiding love for this world that Clive created, so let's jump in! ⸻ Rules 1. Thank the person who nominated you 2. Rate your degree of “Narnia fanatic” (nostalgic, serious, maniacal) 3. Answer the questions below 4. Tag 5+ bloggers 5. Have fun! Scale of Fanaticism 1. Nostalgic Fanatic :  You read the book and/or watched the movies as a child and the word Narnia gives you a warm feeling. 2. Serious Fanatic :  You rediscovered the wonder of Narnia after you were older and have read the books and watched the movies. 3. Maniacal Fanatic :  You have lived Narnia from childhood, hid in closets on more occasions than is healthy, have read and watched all the movies including the BBC version. I read the books and watched both the BBC and the Warner Bros. movies as a child; the word Narnia gives me a warm feeling; and I constantly reread the books ...

// summer reads //

Image
Several of you voted for this post; I didn't know these were so popular, but I ain't mad about it! 😜  Let's crack open some summery books.  ————— The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman I know you've probably already heard of this one, and I know that if you have, you've probably also heard about the Soul-Crushing Emotional Potency of the plot.  So . . . I get it if you don't actually want to read it, lol.  But if you do feel like getting your heart twisted around a bit, this one's got you covered. (okay in all honesty "Soul-Crushing Emotional Potency" is a bit of an exaggeration and I don't want to overhype the book but it does get under your skin and stay there)   The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys To be honest, Sepetys's latest didn't wow me like some of her others.  However, I think a lot of that is due to personal preference, and either way, the aesthetic is immersive and perfect for summer.   In My Father's House b...
