Dream Cast | Ella Enchanted {by Gail Carson Levine}

Hey, hi, hey!  While rereading this book for the first time in ages this past month, I thought again about how cool an updated cast could be for a new film adaptation.   Dream casting a book always feels a little artificial to me since I tend to see characters in my head only as vague outlines; my mental images of them definitely aren't clear or detailed.  (Not usually, at any rate.)  Still, artificiality notwithstanding, creating dream casts is a process I quite enjoy, when I have enough ideas for them, and I wanted to make one for this long-time favorite.   Several secondary characters are missing from this cast — for example, for the life of me, I can't decide on a good candidate for Slannen — but I think I've got the major players covered as well as a couple of random "cameo"-type characters.  I've also included snippets from the book that contribute to my ideas of each character's physical appearance.   ⸻ Ella Jenna Ortega "You were...

Dream Cast: The Silver Chair {by C.S. Lewis}

I've toyed with the idea of fancasting more of the Narnia books for quite some time.  I've already shared my vision for The Magician's Nephew  (which you can read here ), and I'm (for the most part) satisfied with the Warner Bros. adaptations of TLTWATW, Prince Caspian , and TVOTDT.  But what about the three remaining Chronicles ?  What about them, pray?  Sure, The Silver Chair has technically already been adapted by the BBC, but — well.  "Perhaps, on this point, it will be as well to be silent."   (Actually, I quite like the BBC version of TSC, from what I remember.  "Laugh all you choose, but you will not laugh me out of my opinion," and all that.  It's simple and cozy and faithful to the book.  However, I do think it's fair to say that we could do with an upgrade at this point. *ahem*) So!  Since I just reread all seven Chronicles this May, I decided to bite the bullet and go ahead and make a dream cast for The Silver Chair ...

Dream Cast: The Princess Bride

Surprise! I decided to make that fancast after all. 😉 Rachel's question got the ball rolling in my head, and pretty soon I realized that I did, in fact, want to assemble a full dream cast for a new adaptation of The Princess Bride . For those of you who don't know, the original novel by William Goldman is my favorite book ever.  I do love the 1987 adaptation — not taking anything away from that film; it's wonderful — but it contains none (or virtually none) of the elements that make the book my G.O.A.T.  I don't fault the '87 for that; the themes that captivate me on the page would be tricky to translate to the screen.  (If you're curious, you can read a little more about what those themes are here .) For that reason, my stance on a new adaptation has always been, "Probably not a great idea."  True, there's a lot of depth in the novel that the '87 adaptation did not preserve, but in light of how difficult it would be to preserve a lot of tha...
