Lately: Spring 2023

Image
Hello, my loves. ♥  I started this year with the tentative goal of posting at least twice a month, and obviously that hasn't worked out too well for me.  But, I have been managing to meet the once-a-month mark (even if I get the post in just under the wire, as is the case today 😅) , so we'll take what progress we can get. In lieu of the heavier duty posts I have in draft, I thought it would be nice to have a cozy little 'miscellaneous' post.  It's been quite a while since I've given any kind of in-depth life update or talked about what I'm into right now in terms of books, movies, music, etc.  So, why not do that today? Lately, I've been . . .  ☙ Watching - much more TV than I used to. ||  I've always been more of a film girly, and I think I still prefer film as a narrative medium, but I do find it much easier to keep up with a TV episode here and there now that I'm working and studying full time.  My evenings are pretty tight at the moment, so ...

My Top Ten Musicals

Image
I don't even know about ranking anymore, y'all.  I know the top three and beyond that it's all malarkey.  ⎼ ⎼ ⎼ ⎼ ⎼ #10. Carousel My love for this musical has abated somewhat over the last little while, but I still think it's excellent.  It examines some weighty, complicated issues that most other stories don't have the guts to do (especially nowadays).  When does a person become "irredeemable"?  Does someone who does genuinely bad ⎼ perhaps even abusive ⎼ things still have value as a human being?  Can they "come back" and be welcomed into society and relationships again? There is no one-size-fits-all solution to these situations, but this story contains a dialogue on the concept that is refreshingly open-minded.  #9. Hello, Dolly! This is such a goofy, light-hearted, oversized musical.  It makes me happy, and I think it'd be fun to experience in lots of different adaptations, not just the Barbra Streisand movie tha...

A Shout-out Post

Image
A "recent favorites" post, if you will. ;D  (My post introductions have been so concise lately; I should be so proud of myself.) Posts you should read Abby's "Why We Read" post Catherine's "Classic Movies starter pack" post Most anything on Kate Conner's blog   (I mean, I might not agree with absolutely everything she says, but she writes in a very raw, accessible, GOOD way, and there's something inspiring about reading her posts.) Books you should read The Chronicles of Narnia series (Am I right, Abby? ;)) The Lord of the Rings trilogy Guys, I'm sort of-ish/off and on re-reading both of these, and the C. of N. is SO MUCH MORE AMAZING THAN I REMEMBERED, and as for LotR . . . Well, all's I can say is that I'm mulling over the thought that LotR may actually be the most beautiful book(s) I've ever read.  Ever.  Seriously, I don't know if I've ever come across -- or heard of -- another book t...

Fare thee well, Christmas break. You will be missed.

Image
Well, folks, it's that time again.  Tomorrow is the official start of my next school semester, which means blogging activity will, most likely, begin to slack off pretty soon. I know I'll settle back into the school routine fairly quickly, but I can't help wishing it'd delay getting here a little longer, heh. This Christmas break was good to me.  There were certainly some hard moments, but that's just life.  God's still good, eh, what?  :)  Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this break, and I'm sorry to part with it.  :-P  Here are some of the highlights from my last month or so! ~   Crafts.   I did a lot of crafting over this break, and I've rediscovered how much I enjoy it.  (Also, I asked for and received a laminator for Christmas, which means I can now make all the projects look more professional!  I am unreasonably happy with my laminator. :D) ~ My oldest sister got a dog, and he is literally a little pumpkin spice ...

'S'up, peeps

Sometimes life experiences, however ordinary, must needs be shared with our bloggy friends, right?  In the spirit of generosity, then, here are some pictures I've found recently that I really enjoyed, and interspersed among them will be sweet nothings vaguely relating to what I've been doing/enjoying lately. Now, obviously, this gown needs some work in the upper regions *ahem*, but still.  Is that picture not all ooh-and-ahh-beautiful?! I haven't seen it yet .  But I want to. I really like looking up random awesome pictures related to movies, etc.  This practice is particularly helpful for brainstorming future blog headers or future profile pictures, no? Watching  Gilmore Girls is therapeutic.  I'm just saying. I read this article recently that was expounding upon the benefits of annotating in your "core collection" books (as in, the ones that have really impacted you the most), and I've been rereading Ivanhoe doing just t...

A or B? game answers

Image
I'm going to go ahead and post the answers to the game early, so as to avoid confusion during LoWCW, which promises to be absobloominlutely stupendous, but also a little hectic;) #1:  Audrey or Katharine?   Answer:  B (Katharine) Understand, now--I've loved Audrey's performances, as well, and I probably like her style more overall.  BUT I've seen more that I've liked (movie-wise) from Katharine Hepburn than from Audrey. #2:  Hub McCann or Print Ritter?   Answer:  B (Print Ritter) But just barely . #3:  Winter or Summer?   Answer:  A (Winter) I mean, look at that. I love picture-perfect blue skies and bare feet as much as the next girl, but there's something about winter…for one thing, it isn't nearly as long as summer, and being someone who tends to get bored fairly easily if I don't have specific assignments, the long break from school over the summer, though I need and enjoy it, can tend to get a lit...
