My Top Ten Most-Favorite Movies {at the moment & for some time now}

Image
This is fairly self-explanatory. ;) {However, I will point out that, as usual, The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia don't make this list because they're kind of on this whole "other plane," in my mind, when it comes to fictional stories.  This list is for those movies that I watch regularly and am almost always in the mood for.  (And they're in no order. ;))} ✾ The Swan Princess ✾ How come? childhood nostalgia gorgeous animation SONGSSSSS <3 This Is My Idea :   "What if Odette doesn't go for the merger?"   "Urge her!!!" Far Longer than Forever No Fear , etc. CHARACTERSSSSSS <3 <3 Jean-Bob, Mr. Lorenzo Trudge-along ("Friends call me Speed"), Puffin, Odette, Derek (bless his heart), Uberta, Rothbart, Rogers . . .  also, for the record, those names ^^ witty lines "I'm gonna die; I knew it!  I'm on a mission with a lame turtle! " "You should write a boo...

Red Carpet Eye Candy . . . {8}

Image
The frustrating thing is when some of the red carpets aren't actually red . . . This is one that's had to grow on me.  I didn't love it the first time I saw it, but now I like the illusory feel of the sheer fabric around the bodice and the ruffles on the skirt.  And, of course, the color is gorgeous.  I like how elegant and drape-y this is; very statuesque.  It's simple, but the detailing at the top adds a little fanciness, which I like.  I like how simple yet mesmerizing this is.  Kind of mermaid-y, y'know?  There's not too much fuss about the look, but it's lovely.  I also like the hair and earrings.  I'm picky about big flounces on skirts, and this one is riiiiiight on the line for me.  I think I'd like it better if the ruffles were the same color as the rest of the dress (whether because of more volume or actually different fabric color, the skirt is creamier than the bodice/torso), but I still like i...

My take on the Elsie Dinsmore series.

Image
Spoiler alert:  It's not positive. In fact, it will very probably be volcanic.  Unlike most other times I present an opinion, I do not feel the need right now to filter my thoughts and feelings out of consideration for those who may have different ones.  I hate this series.  I think this series is incredibly (to use a very 21st-century term) toxic.  I think it deserves to be eviscerated with passion and righteous indignation, and that is precisely what I intend to do. [Full disclosure before we begin:  As I've edited and continued working on this post, I have tried to stick to a mainly "fun" rant format, without going into too much "gory" personal detail.  I still talk about all my problems with it, but I've deleted some "tearful" parts because it just changed the vibe a bit too much.  I'm going to try to keep things Very Frustrated instead of weepy, if possible, but . . . things could have (and have) gotten weepy.  Just so you kno...

Classics Summed Up in One Picture/Gif by Yours Truly

Image
You know those things where people take classic books or plays and use one picture or gif from a pop culture movie or TV show to describe them?  I really like those, so I decided to try my hand at it.  Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Tartuffe by Moliere Harvey by Mary Chase Frankenstein by Mary Shelley The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux Les Miserables by Victor Hugo Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky Medea by Euripides Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald The Scarlet Pimpernel by Emmuska Orczy I hope you all enjoyed that as much as I did! :)

Pocahontas {1995}

*EDIT*   I now understand that this movie has been harmful to members of the Indigenous American community.  I had always thought of this movie as a gorgeous exploration of race relations and racism, and I'd always loved it because of the animation and the music.  That is still why I enjoy it.  Nevertheless, I understand that I have the luxury of interpreting the movie in that way since I am not a member of the community that could be/has been impacted by this film and therefore cannot have any concept of its potential negative effects. The discussion on this movie appears to be ongoing and multi-faceted, with Indigenous Americans on various sides of the issue.  That being the case, I am choosing to keep this review public (for now, at least).  However, that said, I never want to be endorsing or enjoying something that is inherently racist, and I will continue to try to educate myself on Indigenous Americans' perspectives.  For a good introduction...
