{2019 in Review} Best Bookish Quotes

To close out the year, I thought I'd share some of my favorite quotes from the new-to-me books I read in 2019.  Out of context, yes, but sometimes I find that more fun. 😉

"Atticus?"

"Ma'am?"

"I think I love you very much."

Go Set a Watchman, Harper Lee

"Well done," he said. "It is no easy thing to wake up unexpectedly in the company of a mountain lion, and things might have gone ill if you had panicked."

The Naming, Alison Croggon

God has no agenda other than your highest good in His kingdom.

For the Love: Fighting for Grace in a World of Impossible Standards, Jen Hatmaker

"I had not thought, my husband, that I had been so dear to you."

"Aye, but you were," he spoke as evenly as she.

The Mistress of Husaby, Sigrid Undset

"Answer me a riddle, Sybel: What has set you free?"

The Forgotten Beasts of Eld, Patricia A. McKillip

No, but I wish to go under; to visit the profound depths; once in a while to exercise my prerogative not always to act, but to explore; to hear vague, ancestral sounds of boughs creaking, of mammoths, to indulge impossible desires to embrace the whole world with the arms of understanding, impossible to those who act.

The Waves, Virginia Woolf

"I'm only here to save the hamsters."

Learning to Swear in America, Katie Kennedy

"Have you ever dreamed of one thing for so long, wanted nothing more than to have that dream fulfilled, only to find out that maybe it wasn't what you actually wanted all along?"

He juggled four stones lightly. "I believe that's called growing up."

Heartless, Anne Elisabeth Stengl

"Might I inquire, on my side, if you are aware that Mrs. Tinkler-Moulke owns a Pomeranian?"

"Don't drivel."

"I am not driveling.  This animal yaps all day and not infrequently far into the night.  So Mrs. Tinkler-Moulke has had the nerve to complain of my banjolele, has she?  Ha!  Let her first pluck out the Pom which is in her own eye," I said, becoming a bit scriptural.

Thank You, Jeeves, P.G. Wodehouse

to die by your side by dirrtypaws,

Holiness is not something extraordinary, not something for only a few with brains, with intellectual powers that can reason, that can have long talks and read very wonderful books. Holiness is for every one of us as a simple duty ⎼ the acceptance of God with a smile, at all times, anywhere and everywhere.

Mother Teresa: Her Essential Wisdom, Carol Kelly-Gangi

Outside in the darkness, drums pulsed like a fever in the blood, and the archers on the city walls changed watch, and the guards in the Red Tower stared through their starglasses at the dark lines that separated sea and sky, searching always for ominous black sails, and fires leapt and spread in the shadowed Fesse of Turbansk. But the two children slept as deeply as if they had never heard of war.

The Crow, Alison Croggon

  2. Oh, Bertie.

You've piqued my interest in some of these books by the quotes. Not Go Set a Watchman, that is a travesty, tragedy, and degradation (also an HUGE ethical issue on the publication front).

  3. *cries at the utter perfection of the Bertie Wooster one*

Comments make my day. Seriously. I'd be so happy if you commented. :)

I've gotten really bad about replying in a timely manner, but it's always my intention to do so eventually. (Even though it doesn't always happen. ;))
