bookish bookishness

I think I want to host a read-along.

I don't think I've ever done one before on this blog, and I suspect now (as in, in a few months) might be a good time.  So ⎼ going off the hopeful assumption that some of you would even be interested in participating in it ⎼ let's talk options.

Possible Dates

I definitely can't start a read-along this month, and it's 99.999% positive that I wouldn't be able to do so until this school semester is over, which would put us in December.

Life has been taking more than a few twists and turns lately, so I can't say with total certainty, but I think any time between December 2019 and March 2020 could work for me to get this up and running.

So, what I'd like to hear from you is, do you have any preferences as to timing?  I know that's a pretty wide field, but I don't want to just pick one start time if it wouldn't turn out to be workable for anybody else.  If you have any interest in joining, do you know of any time (say, mid-January) that would absolutely not work for you?

When it comes to what we'd actually study, I have a small handful of possibilities that I've collected.  I might be feeling a classic, but some of these others could be equally fun.  Tell me what you think!

Possible Reads

 - Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell

- Les Misérables by Victor Hugo
  • (I know, I know, this would make for a potentially interminable event since the dear hot mess of a thing is so freaking massive.  But it could be extremely entertaining. ;))

- The Princess Bride by William Goldman

- To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

- Greenwillow by B.J. Chute

- The Forgotten Beasts of Eld by Patricia A. McKillip

- Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis

Dai,questa settimana prendetevi del tempo per voi. Mollate figli e impegni vari e sparite un pomeriggio in biblioteca

Aren't you looking forward to snuggling up with books and blankies during the cooler months?  Whether we do a read-along or no, I'm sure it'll be a good fall/winter for reading. :)

What say you to a read-along?
If it be 'yea,' which of those books would you be most interested in?  (It might be most helpful if you could tell me your top three choices.)

Comments

  1. December is wretchedly busy for me. And for many. So I suggest starting it in January sometime.

I vote for To Kill a Mockingbird, The Princess Bride, and Greenwillow.

  2. OLIVIA. The timing of this post could not be more PERFECT.

For the last few weeks I have been wanting to suggest that you host a read-along!!! I am so happy!!!

The timing of it could be slightly unfortunate, as I may be moving to another state from January 5 to March 15 for a session of training and then outreach to inner city kids in the public school system. But if I do *not* go, then the timing is lovely! The winter months are the very best time for cosily tucking in with a good book!

Honestly I have interest in ALL of the books you mentioned, but my top picks are probably Les Miserables, Mary Barton, & The Forgotten Beasts of Eld. (Or To Kill a Mockingbird/Till We Have Faces. It is almost impossible to choose!)

I can't wait to see what comes of this! ;-)

    1. Were you really?? Aaaaahhh, that's happy. :D :D

Oh, dear. That is not ideal, you're correct. I hope the timing will all work out!

      Thanks! :)

    2. I now have a better idea of what life will look like for me over the winter months, and anytime between December and March should be the perfect time for me to participate in a read-along!!! Yay!!!

  3. I'm so excited Olivia!!! I can't wait!!! At the moment, anytime works for me, but who knows what life events could be lurking around the corner! As to the book I vote for Les Miserables (cause I need to finish reading it and would LOVE to hear what everyone thinks!), To Kill A Mockingbird or Till We Have Faces. AHHHHH I'm so excited!!!!!!!

  4. Ooh! Yes! This sounds so fun! I can't promise I'll be able to participate, depending on the time, but I'll do my best. Mid-January, school starts again, so all my reading time will disappear. But this sounds so fun. :)

  5. Mid-Jan works for me. It's typically not busy for me after Dec.

I vote for To Kill a Mockingbird or C.S. Lewis. I read Les Mis once and... yeah. I also love The Princess Bride, but I just read it this summer. XD

  6. OOOHHH, this sounds like it would be so much fun! You can totally count me in. Any time works for me (the perks of being homeschooled! heehee). My top votes would be:
Les Mis, Mary Barton, Till We Have Faces, and To Kill a Mockingbird (Oh, or the two that I haven't heard of! Greenwillow and The Forgotten Beasts of Eld! Honestly all of your options sound great!)

  7. Mary Barton and Till We Have Faces have been on my to-read list for a long time, but Greenwillow is oh so charming and atmospheric and thoughtful that I think I'll ALWAYS be up for a re-read. <3

  8. Ooohh, yess!! *sticks hand up eagerly*

I'd say December wouldn't really work, and January has potential to be crazy for me, so probably February would suit me best. But honestly, whatever works. I'LL MAKE IT WORK. XD

I'd be totally down for The Princess Bride! (Have never read it, but been meaning to!) Also Les Miserables!! (Ditto!) I believe my local library has both.

Comments make my day. Seriously. I'd be so happy if you commented. :)

I've gotten really bad about replying in a timely manner, but it's always my intention to do so eventually. (Even though it doesn't always happen. ;))
