Would You Rather: Classic Edition | Cordy's Month of Classics Blog Party

The inestimable Cordy over at Any Merry Little Thought is hosting another month-long blog party -- this time, devoted to classic movies!  As part of the kick-off, she posted one of her Would You Rather games, tailored to fit the theme.  So, today, I'm here to post my answers! :)

 Would you rather dance with Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly?
Hmm, maybe Fred Astaire?  I haven't actually watched a ton of either of them, but I almost feel like Astaire's general persona might be more fun?  For me, personally?  But I don't know.


Would you rather star opposite Cary Grant or Gregory Peck?
HOW DARE YOU.  *carts them both away protectively*

[But maybe Gregory.  For (very shallow) reasons.]


(On the other hand, I really do like Cary, and working with him would probably be a blast.)

Would you rather be serenaded by Howard Keel or Bing Crosby?
Again, rude, but Howie is literally my jam, so, sorry, Bing.

(Although tbh I'd rather not be serenaded ever.)


Would you rather share an airplane ride with Danny Kaye or Donald O'Connor?
I've seen approximately 1.5 of each of their roles, on average, so I don't really know, but probably Donald O'Connor.  I've seen more of him and thiiiink I like him a little more?


What classic movie outfit would you steal?  (No you cannot say all of them! ;))
I feel like it's gotta be one of Audrey's, but I can't really think of one.

I like some of the dresses in The Philadelphia Story.  (High-key just mentioned that to bring up TPS.)

I guess one that my sisters and mother and I sighed over every now and then is Liesel's pink dress in the gazebo scene.  (And yes, The Sound of Music JUST BARELY counts for this blog party, since it was released in 1965. ;))



Would you rather be cast in a classic noir film or a classic western?
Pssh, as if you had to ask.  Western all the way. ;)

I mean to say there could be advantages

Would you rather go on a shopping spree with Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly?
Audrey, please!  She seems like such a fun person, and I've read a bit about her and seen more of her films.


Would you rather solve a mystery with William Powell or Myrna Loy?
*blinks*  I -- I'm not qualified to answer this, I don't think??  I've yet to make the acquaintance of either, though I've heard their names.

Mystery is not my cuppa, you must understand.


Would you rather imitate Jimmy Stewart's voice in front of Jimmy Stewart, or imitate Maureen O'Hara's "temper" in front of Maureen O'Hara?
I don't relish the idea of either, but I'll go with Jimmy's voice.  Jimmy himself seems, by all accounts, to have been a pretty laidback guy, so I might not be as nervous.  Plus, I think I'd have a much higher chance of success at voice imitation than temper imitation.



You guys should all check out Cordy's blog and do your own answer post!
Also, random question:  Do you guys have any post suggestions for me?  Because I want to post, but I don't know what to post, especially because I'm lazy and don't want to have to devote much time to post. :-P  But is there anything you'd like to read?

    Eek this is a great post!!

    I absolutely love Liesel's dress. It's so perfect. I love that scene even though I don't like that boyfriend dude. :/ (feels angry at that guy) But the dress is absolutely dreamy.

    And yes, yes, yes to Westerns! And John Wayne! Just wondering, what's your favorite John Wayne Western? Or Western in general? :)

    Any post that you put up is wonderful. Maybe an update on your writing? :) Update on the short story-that-is-going-to-be-a-novel? ;)

      That boyfriend dude is nigh unto worthless and I forgot to mention that in the post. I was going to tell Liesel that he doesn't deserve her anyway. :-P But yes, the dress is lovely!

      GIRL YAAASS. Oosh, sheesh. My favorite?!?! I don't know! My favorite John Wayne so far is probably The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. My favorite Western is probably Broken Trail, but I also really love The Magnificent Seven (original), The Big Country, and this new discovery, Quigley Down Under. :)

      Awwwww, thank you! *hugs you* I am hoping to update y'all on that particular story soon, because it's been low-key exploding in my head and I Have Plans and that makes me excited. :) (And knowing that you'd be interested in it means a lot to me, too! :D)

    Jimmy Stewart certainly comes across as a laid-back guy, I'd agree.

    I'd like to just hear about what you've been up to lately... what you've been thinking, what the Lord has been teaching you, what you've been reading, what songs have been playing around your head... ;) Maybe what you're most looking forward to about autumn? (If you are at all, haha.)
    Oh, and maybe you could do a random post on your bucket list? (Presuming you have one. And if not, maybe you should make one. ;D)

    That Jimmy Stewart quote at the end, what movie is that from?

    I second Jessica's suggestion! Another "Why I Love..." post would be fun to read. And the bucket list suggestion sounds like a fun one, too, if you have a bucket list or can make one up. ;)

      Daaaawwww. *blushes and grins and fumbles with my hands* ;) (Right?? Like the whole idea is just so awkward. I mean, everyone agrees that being sung 'Happy Birthday' to is one of the worst experiences ever, so why would people think that serenading is cool?? EXPLAIN IT TO ME.)

    Ohhh, I love this post so much, Olivia! My family and perhaps myself especially just love classic films, so when I saw this tag a couple days ago on Cordy's blog, I thought the questions were so fun that I immediately found two of my sisters to go through all of them and answer/discuss/debate our answers! :-P

    The Fred Astaire dancing picture is SO stunning!!! That skirt is perfection. <3

    I actually think I agree with every one of your answers! I do actually prefer Grace Kelly's fashion style, but I'd rather hang out with Audrey. And I think I *might* prefer to imitate Maureen's temper, because I think it might be a teensy bit difficult to imitate a male voice?!?!

    I love all your posts! But I would especially love to hear about anything that you've been reading/writing lately!!! I would also love to see more "Why I Love" posts!

    Haha! Yeah, it's not nice to make a person choose between Cary Grant and Gregory Peck.

    I like the clothes in The Sound of Music too -- I've always kinda wanted Maria's brown jumper. It just looks comfy and cute, and like if I dropped food on it, it wouldn't be ruined.

    HAHAHAHAHHA! Yes, there could be MAJOR advantages to being in a western. Such as the absolute certainty there will be cowboys around.

    When in doubt about what to post, a movie review, a book review, or a top ten list are always fun!

Ivanhoe (1997) movie review

I think you all know this, but I am a rather big Ivanhoe fan.  I read the book for the first time a number of months ago and absolutely fell in love.  Well, now that I loved the book, I must needs try out the film adaptations, mustn't I? My first preference would have been for the 1982 version starring Anthony Andrews and Olivia Hussey, as I'd seen clips of that and they looked decent.  Unfortunately, however, my library system doesn't have it, and neither does YouTube or Netflix or other such commodities:(  Thus, I had to content myself with first seeing the 1997 miniseries version, which I just finished yesterday. Here are my thoughts;) Opening scene:   Why is it starting with Ivanhoe being flogged?  This makes little sense. *sigh*  Overall…I'm torn.  Certain things were done extremely well, and some were done…not so well.  The main problem, put succinctly, is that it kept making me have this reaction so many times: Seriously, though.  I mean, I loved t

BBC Robin Hood TV Series, Season 1 Review

First off, this part was the CUTEST. THING. EVER. *takes deep, shuddery breath* Okay, peoples. I'm going to try my very best to get through this review.  It'll be hard.  Because what even is this. For starters, let me say that I have only watched the first season of the BBC Robin Hood .  This is because the show is going off Netflix on February 9th *sniffle*, so I knew there was no way I'd be able to squeeze watched 26 episodes of a very feelsy show into a mere couple of weeks.  So I've watched the first season and will leave it at that until I can find some other way to watch the rest.  It was also because I know That Which Happens At The End Of Season Two, and I was so not  about to put myself through that when there was a danger of not being able to watch the third season.  There is a possibility that I might just skip the second season and watch the third, even though that would mean missing so much of Djaq and Will and even though I've he
