various & sundry

What-ho, all!  A few things.

I really want to be blogging right now.  The problem is that all the posts I'm working on at the moment are a little more time-intensive, so I'm just having to be patient.  I want to be able to just whip posts up and post them within a single evening, and that's just not happening at this stage.  I'd welcome suggestions of any potentially shorter posts if y'all have any on hand, but if not we shall all simply have to wait.  Which is fine, I guess. ;-P

shout-out to Saving Mr. Banks for being an awesome movie

[I also am starting to want to change the blog over to my spring/summer look.  I feel like I should maybe wait, but at the same time, it's possible that this next one could stay up longer than usual.  (Not probable, but possible.)  So, I'm not sure . . . I'll probably leave this one up at least until the beginning of February, at which time I might change.  We'll see.  I could always create and feature a header devoted to fictional couples I love in honor of Cordy's upcoming blog party (more on that below).]

One post that I at least hope to accomplish at some point is an appreciation post for feel-good television series.  Especially (or perhaps exclusively) Parks and Recreation and The Office.  Because, guys, sometimes these shows legitimately feel like self-care.

Few people make me belly-laugh like Leslie Knope and her coterie.

Cordy's second annual Lovely Blog Party is coming up, so I'm working on some posts for that, and having fun so far. ;)

I've actually been writing fairly regularly recently, and I've really been enjoying that.  I'm trying to really work on my Susan Pevensie story, and it's exciting to see it slowly coming together, though there's a lot still to be done before I have a finished first draft.

I'm very passionate about this story, so . . . yeah.  Good times. :)

Recently re-watched Maleficent, so that was fun.  I like that movie very much.  It's a little dramatic, yes--overly so, at times--but it's a well-told story.  And the visuals are quite something.

I'm currently reading through the book of Job.  It's so rich; it's wonderful.

I think that's about it.  (Oh, look, I did whip up this post in a single sitting.  Huzzah! ;))

What have you guys been up to?
What are you looking forward to at the moment?

  1. Yes, Saving Mr. Banks is a great movie! And I'm glad to hear that your Susan Pevensie story is coming along! It is so fun to read about it! I can't wait to hear more!

    1. It is! Awww, thank you! That means a lot. :)

  2. Yeah, I hear you on the wish for fast posts. I feel like lately, my book reviews are shorter than I'd like and my movie reviews are agonizingly long at times, so I'm trying to reverse that a bit, heh. The fastest post I've whipped up recently is the one with ten actors & actresses from my home state, which was so fun to put together. So that would be my suggestion for you to do too!

    1. It can be a bit frustrating, can't it?? I don't even remember what was the last full review I did. They can tend to be extremely difficult for me (I can never seem to easily get them long enough!), so I only do them rarely. I'm considering doing a few minireviews, though.

Ooh, thanks for the idea! I don't know if I'll do that one simply because I'm squeamish of revealing location-y details like that. But I enjoyed your post!

    2. Yes -- it's like I slipped out of sync with my blogging somehow. I feel like I'm getting back in gear a bit better now, and mostly it's just about realizing that I need to change up my morning routine to make it like it used to be, when I had time to read blogs and start blog posts right off in the morning instead of letting them slide until afternoon or evening, when I'd lost my mental energy. So that's helped a lot.

Anyway, I do like posts that are a collection of minireviews, be they of books or movies. Or a mix!

And I get that. I do have the advantage of no longer residing in my home state.

    3. It's neat how you've figured out that it's a matter of sticking to more of a routine. I think I've kind of gone through this kind of lack of inspiration regularly ever since I started blogging; I feel like I go through phases of churning out a lot of posts and then others of hardly posting anything. So I don't know exactly what will help me find a "sweet spot," but, *shrugs* Hopefully I'll figure it out soon. :) I'm glad you've figured yours out! I like how you keep up with blogging despite all your other responsibilities; it's nice to know it's possible. :)

Great! Hopefully I'll get it done; we'll see.

True. When I first saw your post on my dashboard, I was like, "Ooh, this'll be informative for me, too!" But then I realized that, as you say, this state is not actually your home state. Hehe. ;D

    4. I go through phases too, of having lots of post ideas, and then not a lot. There were actually two different times when I stopped posting for about a year, once because I'd run out of things to say and once because I got really busy. So that does just sometimes sorta happen. But both of those were before I was interacting in the blogging world at large much, and now I can almost always find some blogathon or tag or questionaire to do if I have the desire to blog, but no ideas.

Have you ever done Top Ten Tuesday posts for books? I do them once a month or so, whenever there's a fun prompt OR I randomly remember to do it on a Tuesday, hee. Here's the schedule of prompts for the next few months, if you're interested.

I actually thought of doing the actor thing for each of the seven states I've lived in. Cuz that would be nifty. But hasn't happened yet.

    5. Oh, wow! That's a good point, I should try searching out tags or questionnaires more often when I'm feeling stuck.

I haven't! But I've noticed the lists on your blog and another friend's. Thanks for the schedule! I'll have to keep that in mind.

Ooh, that'd be neat! At least it's an idea to save for a rainy day. :)

  3. I don't have the brain bandwidth/mental energy whatever for more opinion posts and haven't recently. So many times I will start them, and then get bored or forget what I meant. So, lately, I've just been tracking what I've done, made, read, watched, Top Ten Tuesdays, etc. and scheduling posts. I don't love that I don't have other posts, but I'm going to have to get better at notes for movies and books, because then I will have drafts to work with.

I also feel that some of my opinions stretch into Serious Subjects with Possible Controversy (at least to the broader public) and well, I'd stated on my blog I'd avoid trouble (I am not sure about some things because discussed on the interwebs), but then I'd have to be a non-person to achieve that. So, there's that.

    1. I feel you there. I guess we'll just have to keep going with what we have for the moment.

That can be a struggle. I try to avoid going into controversial topics on my blog, too.

  4. So many exciting things in this post!!!

I'm so excited to see your spring blog look! And I think a header featuring your favorite fictional couples is a splendid idea! <3

I cannot even begin to say how EXCITED I am to hear that you've been writing more lately!!! I know what a feeling of accomplishment that gives, so just for that reason I am so proud of you! And I am so so so excited that you're working on your Susan Pevensie story again!!! I cannot wait to hopefully read it one day! ;-)

Ya know, I don't think I have ever read all the way through the book of Job! (That's kind of embarrassing...) I think I'll start today though!!!

    1. Aww, thank you!

*rubs hands together* I've made it! It doesn't actually showcase my FAVORITE fictional couples, but they're couples I do like, so it works. :-P

Aaahhhhh, thank you!! I was excited for your comment for that reason. :D Your excitement means a lot to me!!

Oh, I'd definitely recommend it! I feel like, before you read it, you kind of think you know what it's going to be--just Job being unhappy about all his tragedies, and then him learning that God's bigger than his problems--but when you actually read it there's such varied richness to it. Philosophically and spiritually and aesthetically . . . there's so much. Hard to describe in a comment. :D

  5. I’m so interested in your Susan Pevensie story! She doesn’t get a lot of attention (which can be understandable), but there’s so many layers to her character throughout the books that are definitely story inspirations.

  6. I've been good actually-I've been writing a lot myself and getting back into reading and posting up book reviews again, something I actually miss doing and also resisting writing another story (but i know i'm gonna do it anyway)

    1. Ooh, cool! Three questions: What kind of stuff do you write, what have been some of your favorite books you've read recently, and where do you post book reviews? (You don't have to answer if you don't want to, obviously.)

    2. I do post book reviews on my blog (asouthereadersconer), I'm currently enjoying my second agatha christie novel but i do love my fantasy novels and some classics, and I'm actually writing a fanfiction that is currently untitled, but I do write fantasy mixed in with drama and the occasional paranormal/paranormal romance with a small tiny twist of mystery

    3. How neat! I didn't know you had a blog. Ooh, what's the fanfiction for? (I mean, what "fandom" is it a part of?) You seem to have a pretty wide range of interests, both in terms of writing and reading!

  7. Loved your choice of pictures/GIFs in this post. :) OOH your Susan Pevensie story sounds amazing--she's such an underrated character.

  8. Parks and Rec is the best thing :D :D I miss watching it, now that I've finished. It was such a cozy little world.

You go, girl!!!! Your Susan Pevensie story is gonna be AH-MAZE-ING. <333

  9. A few things. :D

One - I looove your new header. *heart eye emoji* The last two make my heart melt.

Two, I've found watching Gilmore Girls is sort of like MY "self-care" because it's pretty light hearted and it just makes me unwind and ohh... I love it. :D

Three, I'm super pumped about your Susan Pevensie story... like, REALLY.

One thing I've been up to... well, I got a journalling Bible for Christmas and I love it SO MUCH. I never thought I'd be the one to enjoy writing in books (I never. ever. wrote or made a mark in books I read) but I've found it's really assisted me in delving in deeper and paying more attention to what's been written. It just makes me so happy and I get SO much more out of it than just reading my Bible. (Although that's good too. :))

Okay, I so relate! Gilmore Girls, The Office, and Parks & Rec can all be really relaxing and decompressing things for me. I love them so much. <3 I'm actually thinking about/hoping to do a post about them one of these days . . .

*HUGE BEAMS* THANK YOU SO MUCH. That means a lot to me. :) <3

Ooh! I tend to write in my Bible as it is; I wonder if a journaling Bible would change the way I study . . . Interesting! :D I'm glad you've found something that works so well for you!! <3

I've gotten really bad about replying in a timely manner, but it's always my intention to do so eventually. (Even though it doesn't always happen. ;))
