Album Spotlight: Dream Country {Sarah Darling}

An idea for a new blog series came to me several months ago, and today I'm finally implementing it.  

I don't know about you, but as much as I love music, it's extremely, extremely rare for me to find an album--be it pop, alternative, Christian, soundtrack, whatever--that I love in its entirety (or very close thereto). So when I do encounter one where I think, "Wow, every single one of these songs [or nearly every single one] is great and I love them all", it's a cause for much jubilation. Especially if that album stays appealing to me over a long period of time.

And so, since a different kind of post is always nice to try, I thought it might be fun to occasionally "spotlight" one such album here on the blog: an album that is entirely or almost entirely Olivia-approved.


The first album to receive the honor is Sarah Darling's Dream Country.

Now, I'm not a big country person.  I'm really not.  However, this particular specimen is right up my alley.  I think a lot of it is due to the fact that Sarah doesn't feel the need to insert any kind of twang into her singing voice, so the songs are both beautiful and restful.

You can listen to the full album here, if you wish; and I'll just highlight my personal favorites.  (Note:  I don't think I've ever listened to "You Take Me All the Way," but all the others, as I recall, are decent.)

I love how wistful and breezy this is.

✾ "Starry Eyes"


A friend ─ you know who you are ─ introduced me to this song, and I love it.  I'm all about that Childhood Nostalgia and Growing Up jazz, so this is very muchly my aesthetic.  Such awesome lyrics, such awesome music.

✾ "Montmartre"


Her voice is so incredibly soothing and delicate, yet rich at the same time.  I love it.  And I love that she sings about some unique topics, like appreciation for specific places.

✾ "Halley's Comet"


Okay, I'm fine!  Not crying, or tempted to cry!  Unaffected!

(Seriously, how are her songs so gentle and aching??)

✾ "Stargazer"


I love this song.  It reminds me of one of my characters, and it's so soothing and understanding and cathartic. ♥

    I just listened to "Where Cowboys Ride," and it's so soft and beautiful. My heart. <3

    SO GLAD YOU LOVE HER MUSIC TOOOO. I've listened to almost all the other songs from the Dream Country album and while none of them quite do it for me like "Where Cowboys Ride" and "Starry Eyes", I agree that her style is so refreshing and simple and calming. ♥

Well, darlin's, here 't'is!  A review of the TV series Lark Rise to Candleford .   SO!  I finished the final season the other night, and am here to discuss my thoughts;)  (Spoilers will be sprinkled indiscriminately!  Read at your own risk;D) LRtC centers around young Laura Timmins, a girl from the wee hamlet of Lark Rise, who moves to the  more affluent town of Candleford to work in her aunt's (or was she just a cousin?) post office.  Miss Dorcas Lane is probably the wealthiest person in Candleford and holds a lot of sway with the townspeople.  With Laura's advent into Candleford, the two communities begin to be intertwined. Romeo and Juliet (2013) {review}

[Note:  Keep in mind that this review is written from the perspective of someone who has never actually read Romeo and Juliet , m'kay?:)  Also, there'll be spoilers, because, I mean…all things considered, you probably know how it all ends.] I first became seriously interested in watching this movie a) because of the utter gorgeousness of all the stills I saw on the Internet, and b) because it has Hailee Steinfeld.  I'd only seen her in True Grit (2011), but, I thought, wouldn't it be cool to see her in a completely different role? So, yesterday, I watched it.  And…I'm not quite sure what I think of it. First things first.  This movie was beautiful .  It was one of those films where you think, "I want just about this entire movie in screencaps."  The cinematography was excellent.  The lighting, the camera angles, the costumes and sets …aaaaaaahhhhh. My Dream Cast for a Live-Action Remake of 'The Incredibles'

Alas, no, I am aware of no immediate plans for Disney to produce a live-action version of The Incredibles .  But if such plans should ever materialize . . . have I got a cast ready for them or what. 😉 ⸻ Elastigirl / Helen Parr Emma Stone Emma would rock Helen's grit & sass like no other actress available today & I will not be accepting criticism of that statement at this time.  I would absolutely love to see her in this role.  She would crush it.  Mr. Incredible / Bob Parr Eric Allan Kramer I know he's a leetle too old now, especially as a partner for Stone, but he's the only person I've ever been able to envision as Bob.  (Except Alan Hale, Jr., but he's about six feet too old.)  So it is what it is, peeps.  Violet Parr Mackenzie Foy   I went back and forth on the casting for Violet.  I would also love to see what Millie Bobby Brown could do with the role, so it was difficult to decide.  In the end, I think Mackenzie Foy would ...
