Dream Cast for "Rose in Bloom"

I'm currently rereading Louisa May Alcott's Rose in Bloom (which, by the by, is a book I absolutely love), and recently I started thinking of people whom I'd love to see play the main characters if the book were ever made into a movie.  (Which sadly seems unlikely.)  So I decided to try and make up a dream cast!  I don't have a mental picture of all the characters yet, but here are a few actors that I think could do well in the more prominent roles:)

~ Rose Campbell ~
Sarah Gadon

~ Mac Campbell
George Rainsford

~ Phebe ~
Anna Popplewell

OR

Hailee Steinfeld

~ Charlie Campbell ~
Christopher Egan

~ Uncle Alec Campbell
Viggo Mortensen

~ Archie Campbell ~
Sam Claflin

Those are all I can think of at the moment.  What're your opinions?  Agree or disagree with any of these ideas?  I'm not rock-solidly-sure of them myself, but it's a start;D

  1. I'm sorry to be commenting on so many of your posts, but THIS. YES!!
Though I didn't do it for Rose in Bloom, I too like to imagine my characters as actors, and you nailed it. :) I think Mac would look a little more book-ish/sophisticated, but Anna Popplewell would be an awesome Phebe. And Viggo Mortensen would be perfect as Uncle Alec. :D

    1. Sorry?! Comments are seriously one of my favorite things, and I look forward to them every single time I post something! Thank you!:D

Thanks! Yeah, I'm not entirely sure about all of them. I have seen George Rainsford with spectacles, and I think he could pull it off, but you're right, he is slightly more mischievous-looking than I imagine Mac. Ah, well. Can't have everything;)

Yes! I'd love to see so many actors/actresses I love in the same film!:D

    2. Okay, good. I love comments too. :) Also, I have no idea why this is, but somehow I imagined Archie as the actor for Marius from Les Mis(I've never seen it, but I know what he looks like!), Eddie Redmayne. lol

    3. Yes! Who doesn't?;)
Ooh, Eddie Redmayne would make a good Archie! I really hadn't had a mental picture of him yet, so Sam Claflin wasn't really a diehard choice of mine, hehe:D

I love the actress you chose for her, though. She fits as Rose perfectly!

  5. Yes, I think Anna Popplewell would be great. As would Viggo Mortensen, although I will never ever be able to shake the image of Aragorn...

  6. Ok!!! WOW!!! Anna Popplewell as Phebe? YES!!!!!! And I think Christopher Egan would be a PERFECT Charlie. Although I have to admit that I have never seen him in anything. And while Viggo as Uncle Alec would be AMAZING (I mean COME ON its Viggo Mortensen!!!!!!) I can't quite see him as Uncle Alec. Re-reading Eight Cousins this morning when I got to the part where it is the morning after he arrives and she sees him from the balcony, the first person that popped into my head and is now stuck there as 'Uncle Alec' was Hugh Jackman. The clean shaven, curly headed Hugh. You see. I am writing an Eight Cousins/Rose In Bloom story. Only it is set on a ranch in Montana in the 1920's/30's and I am changing names and ages. And Rose's dad is an adopted brother so its not blood cousin marrying blood cousin.

    1. Right?! Anna seems to be the most popular choice:D Me too! I think he'd be a great Charlie:) I recommend 'Letters to Juliet'--Christopher Egan acts in it, and he's adorable:D Ooooh, Hugh Jackman! YES! I was having trouble casting Alec, so I chose Viggo, but Hugh would be great too!:D Oh, you're writing a remake?! That's awesome! You should start a blog and post some snippets:)

  7. :) Yes!!! I am having a lot of fun. Do you mind if I use some of the people that you cast? I now can't think of anyone else as Uncle Alec!!! And yes I will be starting a blog. Sometime in the beginning of August.

    1. Thanks, Emma! Your comment brightened my day :) Which choice for Phebe, would you say? I can't decide...I thiiiiink Hailee, just because she has a really pretty voice, but I don't know :P GAAAHH, yes, isn't it amazing?! I need to reread it soon, actually--it's SO good. Glad you love it, too! :)

  10. You are most welcome! Hmmm... I've never seen Hailee in anything nor have I heard her sing, but she looks a bit more like my "fantasy-Phebe" ;) And yes, I must admit, I have only gotten about halfway through Rose In Bloom but it has that this-is-going-to-be-a-favorite sort of feel to it. Books like that thrill me!

  11. Oh my goodness!! I LOVE THIS!! I had actually thought of doing something similar myself but this is better than what I could have done! I have recently been reading Eight Cousins and Rose and Bloom and they are probably one of my favorite books. It is so wonderful to be able to see this as a possible cast! My sisters and I have been telling each other how much we wished there was a movie for Rose in Bloom, thank you so so much for making this!

  12. Love this! I don’t know most of these actors, but I think they’re all just fantastic! The only thing I might do is switch Charlie and Archie. I just see Charlie as having longer, darker hair. Probably because he reminds me of Laurie from little women (and therefore Timothee Chalamet lol). But we all know that all the cousins actually had blond hair 😅 excellent though! I really love them all!

    1. Ooh, fair enough! I think I had the guy for Charlie locked in my head because of the blond hair, lol.

I've gotten really bad about replying in a timely manner, but it's always my intention to do so eventually. (Even though it doesn't always happen. ;))
