Christmas Music Tag (Part 1)

Recently, I've been privileged to get to know Cordy.  I'm so glad we met!  Her blog is delightful and a lovely addition to the blogosphere:)

And guess what?!  She's started this three-part tag all about Christmas music, and she tagged me!

Well.  You know me;)

If I understand this correctly, each installment of the tag will have a different theme:  Ice Skating, Santa Claus, and Jesus' Birth (are those the right ones?).  Anyway, today's is ice skating, but this basically just means newer Christmas songs--as in, non-traditional, non-hymn songs.  Since Cordy has allowed us to interpret it that way, that's how I'm gonna do it;)  (And I'm going to steal her idea of including pretty ice skating pictures.)

Rules
1.)  Link back to the person who tagged you
2.)  List up to five holiday songs that meet the current category (for today, 'ice skating')
3.)  Tag up to five other bloggers and let them know that you have done so

My answers (all two of them)

I technically first heard this song on Taylor Swift's Christmas album, but she says "My God" in that one instead of the "Well" that Brooke White uses, so I'm going with Brooke White for obvious reasons;)

I really like Francesca Battistelli's Christmas album--well, most of it, that is.  Some of it I'm not crazy about, but overall it's really fun and beautiful by turns.  She'll likely be featured a lot in my answers;)

I hope those videos worked; I haven't actually tested them out myself :-P

Thanks for the tag, Cordy!  Sorry that my answers weren't exactly bountiful;)

I tag

Anyone and everyone!:)

  1. You're so kind! 'A privilege to get to know me'?! That's very nice of you to say! It's been great getting to know you as well :) You are my first follower!

The categories aren't quite like that. I haven't 'released' the other two topics yet. I just wanted to explain how each genre could explore the different aspects of Christmas from Santa to Christ' birth. My next category choice will post on Monday. (It will probably be my favorite of the three posts!)

I prefer the Brooke White version for the same reason!

I had never heard any of Francesca Battistelli's music before so this was a perfect pick for me and just what I was looking to do with my tag! Watching/listening to the song with that gif underneath is kinda mesmerizing and really fun. :) Well done!

Thanks so much for doing the tag! It's perfect!

    1. *blushes* Dawww, thanks! And it has been! I am?! That's such an honor!

      Ohhhh, now I understand ;)

Cool! Yeah, I don't know why Taylor stuck that in there...ah, well;)

Oh, awesome! I'm so glad that worked out, then :D I really like Francesca Battistelli.

Of course! Thanks so much for tagging me :)

    2. To be fair, to Taylor, the original version of the song was recorded in the 80ish by "Wham". And they are the ones that used the original wording. So I'm sure that's why Taylor's version is the way it is. Brooke White is the only version that I've heard that deviated from that.

    3. Ahh, that makes sense. I figured it was probably something like that.

I KNOW RIGHT. I'm glad people are enjoying the gif; I was thinking about not including it so I'm glad I did in the end;)

*blushes* Thank you!!!! That means a lot:)

  3. Oh, this is so much fun! Now . . . let me see . . . what songs do I know that would fit?

Aha! Keith Harkin (from Celtic Thunder) on "All I Want For Christmas (Is You)"--I LOOOOOOOOOVE that one! He's so funny ;) Also, Charlotte Church's version of "Winter Wonderland." And, I know this is actually a hymn, but I really, really recommend Celtic Thunder's cover of "Mary, Did You Know?" It's so beautiful and peaceful, and the official YouTube includes some really awesome pictures :)

    2. I need to listen to more Celtic Thunder!! They do "Mary, Did You Know?" *gasp* That's such a gorgeous song; I'm sure they do it beautifully!

(Oh, by the by, speaking of Celtic Thunder, I thiiiiiink I figured out your real name;) If it starts with a 'K', that is.)

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I really appreciate that!

    3. It does, indeed, start with a "K." ;) AND SERIOUSLY ISN'T THAT SUCH A FANTASTIC SONG???? And I'm afraid I'm guilty of swooning slightly over Colm Keegan's blue eyes. Not to mention his voice . . . when he says *my* name . . . Ahem.

Yes, they have a spectacular version of "Mary Did You Know." Here's the link to the best video (I think the background pictures are from the new-ish movie "Son of God"):

  4. Goodness, I LOVE Christmas music! I've been hearing quite a lot of it recently, as I've been practicing for a big Christmas program at our church. (I play the violin.) :) Ooh, and I also love ice skating! So this tag is just awesome, and I would totally take it if I had my blog up and running.

Francesca Battistelli's music is fantabulous <3 I have all of her CDs, and her Christmas one is a big favorite of mine. What songs aren't your favorite, out of curiosity? I love all of them, although some more than others.

I love your new blog look, by the way. You always pick the most beautimous pictures <3

    1. You play violin?! That's so awesome, Mary! And best of luck with the church program; I'm sure you'll do splendidly:) Are you going to start a blog? YOU SHOULD!:D

Isn't it, though? That's so cool that you have all of her CDs! Well, I don't really care for "modern" Christmas music, so I'm not a huge fan of "The Christmas Song" and "Marshmallow World" and such, but they're still good, of course! And I'm super picky about how "my" Christmas carols are sung, so I'm not too fond of a couple of her older ones…but on the whole, I love the album. AND CHRISTMAS DREAMS IS ONE OF MY NEW FAVORITE SONGS. IT MAKES ME TOO HAPPY:)

Aww, thanks so much! I really appreciate that! :D

    2. Thank you! It's less than a week away now, and I'm getting NERVOUS! *panics and flails around* (Oh, and I do plan on starting a blog! Hopefully it will become a reality sooner or later!)

I'm a HUGE fan of Francesca! I guess I really like the "modern" Christmas music, as long as it's done "right." Like, there are certain modern Christmas songs that I don't like, but I love all of Francesca's versions. I particularly like how she tweaked the lyrics in "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" from "if the fates allow" to "if the Lord allows" :) BUT YES CHRISTMAS DREAMS IS AMAZING

    3. I'm sure you did SPLENDIDLY, but how did it go? :D (And yay! Do be sure to tell me when you do.)

Ah, yes, I did like how she changed it to "if the Lord allows" :D YESH!

    4. It went fairly well, thanks! Though I must admit that it was rather exhausting. Three nights in a row is a loooot of playing... (Particularly when the program is two hours long!)

  6. Your new header!! It's lovely! Everybody's getting into the wintry look. :) I would, too, except I'm not real good at making headers, and by the time I come up with a good one, winter will probably be over! Heehee.

Oh, and your new background is lovely, too! Excellent job, Olivia!

    1. Aww, thanks ever so much, Miss March! Pish-tush, you're excellent at headers. It takes me FOREVER to make them, though, so I understand how you feel ;D

Thank you so much! *blushes and grins*

  7. Oh, oh, can we all pause a moment to admire your new header?! :D It's so pretty! (Although it's a little too wintry for me, only because it's spring over here, haha.) I think I recognize almost every picture! If I'm correct, I think I can spot Elinor Dashwood (in the marvellous '08 S&S! :D) and OH LOOK IT'S SIERRA BOGGESS AS CHRISTINE!! I LOVE that movie. :D And the Book Thief (I haven't seen the movie, but I recognize the outfits/characters, hehe) oh and Peter Pan, when they're dancing.....and possibly that famous lantern from The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe? ;) Oh, and the background is a nice swirly colour too. :) I really like it, if you can't tell. :P

    1. Miss Meg, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Your comment made me so happy. You're such a sweetheart:D

It's actually Anne Elliot from the 2007 Persuasion, not Elinor, but everything else was right! I'm SO glad you like it!!! That means a lot:D
