Lovely Blog Party || Corny couples I can't (or couldn't) help but like.

[To clarify, these are a few couples that at least come from slightly cheesier films.  I don't want to offend anybody by calling your favorite couple corny--definitely not--but I just know for me personally that some of these movies are ones that I might feel a tad embarrassed to admit to liking. ;-P  Not all of them (not Knight and Day, for instance), but some of them (*cough*John Carter*cough*).]

I know that these romances are corny, but I'm easily affected!  I can't help it!

So don't judge me. ;-P

✾ John & Dejah ✾
John Carter

*cringes a little*  Honestly, this is probably the cheesiest movie on the list (start out with a bang, and all that), and I believe I remember thinking even while watching it that I definitely should not have been being affected by the romance.

But I was definitely being affected by the romance.

And probably still would be now, were I to watch it again.  Which I kind of want to.  I really enjoyed it.

✾ June & Roy ✾
Knight and Day

This couple is kind of supposed to be over-the-top, because the whole movie is supposed to be over-the-top.  It's an action-y chick-flick that pokes a good deal of fun at some of the tropes of both classic action and classic romance.  And I am, as they say, Here For That, so I really enjoy this movie.  It's hysterical.

And Roy and June are actually quite cute in their wacky way.

✾ Dastan & Tamina ✾
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Look at this picture.  It is aesthetically pleasing.

Actually, I don't think this movie was really all that cheesy--not any more than National Treasure is cheesy.  They're both well-made movies considering what they're supposed to be: family movies with some improbable scenarios and premises, liberally dashed with fun for everyone.

At least, that's what I remember.  I only saw Prince of Persia once. :-P

So Dastan and Tamina probably shouldn't even be on this list, because I don't think they or their movie is really cheesy, if you think about it.  But I wanted to mention them and this seemed like the best place to do it. :-P

I definitely want to re-watch this, to see if my above impression of it is accurate.

✾ Neil & Christy ✾
Christy

Oh, boy. ;-P

I keep going back and forth on these two.  From what I recall, there are some really cheesy parts with this couple in the TV series, but I get the feeling that I'd still high-key fall for them if I re-watched it.  (Which I probably will.)  Despite the corniness, they are a compelling couple.  (For me, at least.)  And I think they get more development as a couple in the series than in the book, yes?

✾ Ella & Char ✾
Ella Enchanted

This picture too is aesthetically pleasing.

I already did a whole spiel about this movie and my very mixed thoughts on it in this post, but I will admit that it still has some nostalgia for me.  It could probably still cheer me up if I watched it when feeling blue.  It's a story that I loved very much in my tweens (pssh, who am I kidding, I still love it), so it has a feeling of safety to it for that reason.

I mean, it's still crude and Very Different From The Book and all that, but it's also clever, for all that; and I think Hugh Dancy and Anne Hathaway did well together as Char and Ella.  I think they had pretty decent chemistry.

✾ allllllllll the Barbie movie couples ✾

My friend and I legit Felt Feelings when we saw this movie for the first time (and that wasn't long ago).

Give me ALLLLLLL the Barbie movies!  (At least, all the older ones.) ;D

I love Barbie movies and Barbie couples passionately and forever.  So there.

Comments

  1. I've haven't watched most of these. I watched Prince of Persia, but I was pretty lost for most of it. I like Ella and Char in Ella Enchanted well enough (book is better of course), but the movie overall is pretty excruciating to me.

I think most Chick-flicks are corny. So most of those I enjoyed are corny. I have to say that I prefer Michael and Mia in the first Princess Diaries as an adult, they are way sweeter. But as a teen, I was disappointed until I was completely flattened with a (still ongoing) crush on Christ Pine.

And then of course there is Hallmark.

    1. Yeah, I have to be in the right mood for practically ANYTHING time travel-y, so I couldn't watch Prince of Persia that often. The movie of Ella Enchanted would be a difficult one to watch with other people. :-P I can watch it on my own sometimes when I'm feeling in the mood for a throwback thing.

*shrugs* Makes sense. Gotcha. I like Nicholas and Mia better, but Michael is a really sweet guy, you're right.

"And then of course there is Hallmark." << HA! That's awesome. xD

  2. I will always love the book Ella Enchanted better, but I agree with you that the picked the perfect actors for Ella and Char! The work so well together!

    Fun post!

    1. Same! Yeah, they're solid actors. :)

      Thanks! :D

  3. I did enjoyed watching John Carter, however cheesy it might be. not quite sure about the romance but I like that Dejah (I don't even remember that's her name) is a strong woman, literally.

have not seen knight and day. strangely I did see Prince of Persia and I enjoyed that movie also, I thought it was fun as for the romance, it's predictable but not terrible.

I'm totally against Neil and Christy, sorry but I believe she picked the wrong guy, I just don't see these two as being well matched, or maybe I'm biased because I sort of don't like Neil

Ella & Char - not cheesy at all, I think they are perfect for each other.

I've never see any Barbie movies so I can't comment on them, and I'm not all that interested in Barbie as a character.

    have a lovely day.

    1. I know, right? Really cheesy but really fun. :D

Knight and Day is a really entertaining movie. You should try it. ;) Yep, that about sums Prince of Persia up. :)

Hey, that's fair! Everyone has a right to their opinion, especially on fictional characters. I didn't love them as much when I re-read the book recently, myself.

Oh, I think they're a fun couple, too! I just think the movie itself was pretty cheesy/crude. But everyone has different definitions. :)

      Haha, I get that.

      Thank you, you too!

  5. Christy and Neil are a great couple! Some of the best interactions in the show came from those two.

  6. Oh my goodness I forgot about The Prince of Persia!!! I adored it and rewatched it more times than I can count when it first came out. And I don't think it's cheesy at all.

I also really enjoyed John Carter. XD Oops, I guess not many other people did??? But It was good!!

    1. It was a lot of fun!! I actually have it out from the library now but I'm waiting to see if I "get in the mood" for it. (I'm picky about time travel-y stuff.)

Haha, I guess??? Like, I really enjoyed it, too. I just got the feeling that a lot of people would find it unbearably corny. :-P But maybe not!

    1. Haha! I don't know if any of them would be your thing. Maybe the first three, just 'cause they're fun? But I don't know. ;)

Hehe, well . . . interestingly enough, *I* had Mixed Feelings (let us say) when I re-read Christy most recently. ;-P

  9. Ugh, don't get me started on Ella Enchanted. Hugh and Anne were grand, but the screen writers will forever be in my black books.

Hehe. I've watched a few Barbie movies too, and while they are probably the cheesiest things I've ever seen, they were amusing...kind of.

    1. Hehe. They did rather change the story from the book, didn't they? ;-P

I LOVE Barbie movies. Nostalgia and childhood and fun and pretty colors, and all that. :)

  10. OMW Dastan and Tamina. *heart eyes* I honestly think this one's pretty good, too. I felt like the Christy and Neil thing was a tad sudden in both the book and TV series, but they did have good chemistry. :D Annnnddd I legit adored the Ella Enchanted romance when I saw it as a child.

AND YES. The old Barbie movies xD For not being allowed to have the dolls, I somehow ended up with several of the movies and adored them. The Nutcracker romance was so good, but I loved The Princess and the Pauper the best. I subjected my little brothers to it not that long ago and STILL KNEW ALL THE SONGS. Not embarrassing/gratifying at all xD

If you haven't seen the movie Penelope, you need to. It's cute with a fantabulous romance. Also, Mirror Mirror. xD Definitely cheesy, but I hardcore adored the couple chemistry.

    1. :D Yeah, Christy and Neil have started to lose their luster a little bit for me, too. The romance itself from Ella Enchanted is great! :D

YES! The Princess and the Pauper is possibly my favorite, too! I mean I love a lot of them, but, like you mentioned--THE SONGS! And everything. ;) And The Nutcracker was great, too!

Penelope is one of my all-time most-favorite movies ever. :D :D So glad you like it, too! And Mirror Mirror! That would have been a good one for this post . . . I like that movie a lot, too. :)

  11. So I’m only really familiar with Neil and Christy, Ella and Char (though it’s been awhile) and the Barbie movies (again, been awhile) but I LOVE this post idea.

Also we are so similar (shocker right) because I too certainly get drawn into some romances “against my better judgment.” Like I KNOW this movie is stupid and this romance ridiculous but I still like it....

I too have my own corny couple loves. I can't seem to resist sometimes! Even when I really "should"! Hahaha.
    Loved this post, Olivia!!

    1. Haha, I get that. I would definitely agree that the book is better, but as far as the movie goes, I think they were cute. :)

  13. Ohh, yes, Roy and June!! (I really like that movie, actually. It's so funny. xD) They're cute together, hehe.
